China’s Digital Economy Index Sees Surging Growth Since 2016

A key index for measuring the strength of China’s digital economy has seen roaring growth over the past two years.

China’s Digital Economy Integration Index (数字经济融合指数) posted a reading of 172 as of March 2018, according to figures revealed at the “Digital Integration – Navigating China’s New Economy” (“数字融合·领航中国新经济”论坛) forum held in Guiyang on 29 May.

This figure marks an increase of 98% compared to the reading for March 2016.

According to the “Digital Economy Supply Side – China’s Digital Economy Index 2018 Report (数字经济的供给侧——中国数字经济指数2018年度报告), since 2017 May China’s digital economy indices have seen continuous growth, with the comprehensive index rising to 364 from 238.

Guangdong, Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang are host to China’s top five digital economies, while other regions that have seen roaring growth over the past two year period include the provinces of Shandong, Anhui, Henan and Jiangxi.
