Tencent’s WeBank to Hold Inaugural Fintech Open Day in Shenzhen

Tencent-backed online lender WeBank (金融科技开放日) plans to hold China’s first ever Fintech Open Day in the southern tech hub of Shenzhen.

The event scheduled for 26 July will see WeBank share its perspectives on core areas including artificial intelligence, the blockchain, fintech and accelerators, as well as reveal the development and application processes for key technologies.

Main speakers at the event will include Tencent Cloud president Qiu Yuepeng (邱跃鹏), WeBank vice-head and chief information officer Ma Zhitao (马智涛), WeBank chief artificial intelligence officer Yang Qiang (杨强), and CNCF greater China director and Linux Foundation APAC strategic planning director Keith Chan.

The event will be divided into the four main forums of artificial intelligence, the blockchain, open platforms and accelerators, while WeBank will also take the opportunity to publicly unveil key products including the Fintech Sandbox, the WeCube distributed IT management platform and the WeDataSphere big data platform.

Fintech Day will also see the launch of the inaugural WeBank Fintech University Competition (微众银行首届金融科技高校技术大赛), which will be open to university students from around the globe and involve AI and blockchain projects.

Participants in the competition will have the chance to win prize money, as well as internship and employment opportunities.
