China’s State Information Center (SIC) has unveiled plans to officially launch its Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN) within the next several months.

Tang Sisi (唐斯斯), vice-chair of SIC’s Smart City Development Research Center (智慧城市发展研究中心), said that ISC was working with entities including China Mobile and China UnionPay to establish and launch the BSN, which would come online and commence official commercial operation in April.

Tang made the remarks at the China Urban Regulation Innovation Forum (中国城市治理创新论坛) in early January.

The internal testing period for the BSN is scheduled to run from October 2019 to March 2020, with the Zhejiang province capital of Hangzhou designated as the first trial city, and free internal testing provided to a total of 400 enterprises and 600 developers.

On 15 October 2019 SIC, China Mobile and China UnionPay announced the start of the internal testing period in Beijing, as well as released the “Blockchain-based Service Network Foundational White Paper” (区块链服务网络基础白皮书).

According to the white paper the goal of the BSN is to provide industry, enterprises and government with a dependable, controllable and expandable consortium blockchain infrastructure.
