The number of Chinese cities with permanent resident populations of over 10 million has increased by three over the past two years to reach 16 in total.
Official data indicates that the list of Chinese cities with populations in excess of 10 million include:
- Chongqing (31.24 million)
- Shanghai (24.23 million)
- Beijing (21.536 million)
- Chengdu (16.58 million)
- Tianjin (15.598 million)
- Guangzhou (14.9 million)
- Shenzhen (13.03 million)
- Wuhan (11.08 million)
- Shijiazhuang (11.03 million)
- Harbin (10.85 million)
- Suzhou (10.72 million)
- Linyi (10.58 million)
- Hangzhou (10.38 million)
- Zhengzhou (10.14 million)
- Nanyang (10.01 million)
- Xi’an (10 million).
The list of Chinese cities with permanent resident populations of more than 10 million yuan has swelled by three over the past two years, with the addition of the provincial capitals of Hangzhou, Zhengzhou and Xi’an.
Chinese demographers expect Dongguan in Guangdong province and the Jiangsu capital of Nanjing to soon see their own populations exceed 10 million yuan.
Official data further indicates that China is host to 11 cities with populations in excess of 10 million and GDP’s in excess of one trillion yuan, including:
- Shanghai
- Beijing
- Shenzhen
- Guangzhou
- Chongqing
- Suzhou
- Chengdu
- Hangzhou
- Wuhan
- Tianjin
- Zhengzhou.
