President Xi Jinping has called for the greater use of technology for social regulation purposes as well as efforts to combat the novel coronavirus.
According to a recent editorial published by the Study Times (学习时报), Xi has called for the “use of digitised methods to better detect social trends, clear out communications channels and assist the implementation of decisions.”
Xi called for the “establishment of a ‘smart regulation’ model, which requires the implementation of information and data sharing, and the incorporation of technologies including the Internet of Things, cloud computing and the blockchain into social regulation.
“Certain regions have already installed comprehensive regulatory dispatch and command screens, for real-time monitoring and control and implementing centralised dispatch and command, which has permitted the seamless coverage of security issues for personnel, communities, streets, municipal areas and even entire cities.
“This provides real, high-efficiency management technology support to this struggle against the disease.”
