Three of China’s leading tech and fintech firms have taken the top three spots on the list of the world’s biggest blockchain technology patent applicants in 2019.
China’s IPR Daily and incoPat Innovation Index Research Centre (incoPat创新指数研究中心) jointly released the “2019 Global Blockchain Invention Patent Ranking” (2019年全球区块链发明专利排行榜) on 24 April.
According to the ranking the world’s three biggest blockchain patent applicants in 2019 were Alibaba (Alipay), Tencent and Ping An Group.
Alibaba has retained top position for the third year in a row, filing a total of 1505 patent applications in 2019 alone.
Chinese companies also accounted for seven out of the top ten companies on the 2019 list.
