Liu He (刘鹤)

    Liu He (刘鹤) (born January 1952) is a Chinese politician and economist.

    He emerged as one of the most influential figures in the financial regulatory system following the 19th National Chinese Communist Party Congress held in October 2017.

    Liu is a member of the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), vice premier of the State Council, chair of the Central Leading Group on Financial and Economic Affairs and member of the Leading Party Member’s Group.

    He is a native of Changyi county in Hebei province.

    1952: Born in Changyi county, Hebei province.

    1969- 70: Joins a commune in Taonan county, Jilin province, as an “educated youth” sent to the countryside for re-education during the Culutral Revolution.

    1970 – 1973: Serves as member of the People’s Liberation Army.

    1973 – 1979: Works at a radio factory in Beijing, rising to the position of cadre and secretary with the Communist Youth League Committee.

    1979- 1983: Student majoring in industrial economic management at the Industrial Economics Faculty of Renmin University in Beijing.

    1983: Teacher at the Industrial Economics Faculty of Renmin University.

    1983 – 1985: Master’s student majoring in industrial economics at the Industrial Economics Faculty of Renmin University.

    1986 – 1987:  Cadre with the Development Research Center of the State Council.

    1987 – 1988: Cadre with the Industrial Integration Department of the State Planning Commission.

    1988 – 1991: Vice-section head of the Industrial Structure Office of the Department of Industrial Policy, State Planning Commission.

    1991 – 1993: Section-head of the Industrial Structure Office of the Department of Industrial Policy, State Planning Commission.

    1992 – 1993: Visting scholar at Seton Hall University, New Jersey.
