China’s IT workers enjoy the country’s highest average levels of remuneration as of 2016, beating out finance sector professionals.

Data released by China’s National Bureau of Statistics on 27 May indicates that the average annual salary for members of the Chinese IT sector saw a year-on-year rise of 9.3% in 2016 to reach 122,478 yuan, ousting the financial sector from perch position for the first time ever.

Average annual incomes for the Chinese finance sector grew by only 2.3% to reach 117,418 yuan, due to curbs on executive remuneration as well as the poor performance of the Chinese stock market.
