A vice-secretary from China’s National Development and Reform Commission has made a  GDP growth forecast of 6.5 – 6.8% for 2018.

In article written for the Beijing Daily, the NDRC official said that a slew of domestic and external factors supported robust economic growth in China for 2018.

“Looking at matters overall, in 2018 the support capability for economic growth is quite strong, and the trend of improvement amidst stability is expected to remain steady, without any major fluctuations.

“While in economic growth terms, it is fully possible for us to reach the growth level of 6.3% that is needed for China to achieve a moderately prosperous society (小康社会) by 2020,, it’s also necessary, however, to push growth a little fastest under the pre-condition that quality is improved.

“I personally believe that this year the economic growth rate could remain above 6.5%, and is likely to be between 6.5 and 6.8%.”

China’s official GDP figure for 2017 was 6.9%, for the first rebound in annual growth since the start of the decade.
