Demand for Rental Housing in Yangtze River Delta Rises 41.9% in First Half of 2019

The Yangtze River Delta region around Shanghai has seen a surge in demand for rental housing in the first half of 2019. 

The “2019 Yangtze River Delta City Cluster Housing Market Report” (2019年长三角城市群楼市报告) released by 58 Tongcheng and Anjuke indicates that rental housing demand in the cities of the Yangtze River Delta rose 41.9% YoY in the first half of 2019. 

In Shanghai rental housing demand rose nearly 30% YoY, while in the nearby Zhejiang province capital of Hangzhou demand rose by 40%. 

The report indicates that demand hit a peak in March before falling back in April – June and holding steady. 

In Shanghai the rental housing supply share was 40%, while in the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou area the rental housing supply share was 78%.
