ICBC Officially Launches Sensor-Free Payments System, Collects Car Parking Fees via License Plate Scans

The world’s biggest bank hopes to facilitate the convenience of the payment process via the launch of a new “sensor-free” system.

On 10 September ICBC simultaneously launched the “ICBC Sensor Free Payments” (工银无感支付) system in eight locations around China, including Beijing, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Jilin, Shanxi, Shanghai, Guizhou and Shandong.

The ICBC Sensor Free Payments product system encompasses three key products for providing tailored solution plans that cater to the specific needs of clients, including:

  • License plate payments (车牌付);
  • Barcode payments (扫码付);
  • Code-free payments (免密支付).

An ICBC representative said that the ICBC Sensor Free Payments service was already available at the T1, T2 and T3 carparks of Beijing Capital International Airport, providing automatic fees for to customers who have incorporated their license plate and banking card information into their ICBC mobile banking apps.

ICBC said that the next step will be to apply its Sensor Free Payments system to areas including healthcare, education and training, as well as culture and tourism, in order to provide more convenient financial services to customers.
