Bank Branch Coverage Rate for China’s Rural Townships Hit 96.3% at End of 2018: PBOC Report

A new report from the Chinese central bank indicates that over 96% of China’s rural townships had access to bank branches as of the end of 2018.

According to the “China Financial Inclusion Index Analysis Report (2018)” released by the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) on 21 October, 2018 saw a sizeable increase in financial inclusion and the financial services coverage ration across China.

As of the end of 2018 China’s nationwide bank branch rural township coverage ratio was 96.3%, equal to 1.65 bank branches on average for every 10,000 people.

70% of provinces in China had a bank branch rural township coverage ratio of 100% as of the end of last year.
