Balance of Basic Medicare Funds in China Exceeds 2.69 Trillion Yuan

The balance for basic medicare funds in China currently exceeds the 2.69 trillion yuan (approx. USD$379.5 billion) threshold.

China’s National Healthcare Security Administration released its “2019 Medicare Guarantee Undertaking Development Statistical Rapid Report” (2019年医疗保障事业发展统计快报) on 30 March.

According to the report China’s basic medicare insurance fund balance stood at 2.691211 trillion yuan as of the end of 2019.

As of the end of 2019 the number of people who enjoyed “full-bore basic medicare insurance” was 1.35436 billion, for an insurance coverage rate of over 95%.

This included 329.26 million people with professional basic medicare insurance, for an increase of 12.45 million people, or 3.9%, compared to 2018.

1.0251 million people had urban-rural residential basic medicare insurance, for a reduction of 2.68 million people, or 0.3%.
