China has just seen travel passenger volumes for its nation rail system surge in on-month terms following the dialling back of its COVID-19 lockdown.
China’s national railway system saw 157 million individual passenger trips in May, for an average of 5.08 million trips per day.
The daily average for May marked an increase of 1.39 million trips, or 37.6%, compared to the reading for the preceding month.
A representative from China Railway (国铁集团) said that in the month of May the travel consumer market warmed up following the resumption of work by enterprises and the recommencement of classes around China, leading to a sharp rise in rail transportation demand.
