China’s domestic passenger flights have staged a robust recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, with August seeing a record number of trips for 2020.

In the month of August China’s civil aviation sector saw a total of 45.539 million individual passenger trips, according to data released by the Civil Aviation Administration on 15 September.

This figure is nearly three quarters of the figure for the same period in 2019, and in YoY growth terms is 58.9 percentage points ahead of the growth rate for February.

August also saw 45.351 million domestic individual passenger trips, equal to over 80% of the figure for the same period last year, and the highest monthly figure since the start of 2020.

International passenger trips continue to be low as a result of the pandemic, dropping 97.3% YoY in August to 189,000, for average daily trips of just 6,000.

August also saw 546,000 tonnes of goods and postal deliveries via air freight, equal to 86.7% of the figure for the same period last year, with domestic deliveries back to 86.2% and international deliveries back to 87.8%.
