China Ships over 100 Million 5G Smartphones since Start of 2020

The latest data from China’s peak telecommunications body points to the sale of more than 100 million 5G smartphones since the start of the year.

Data from the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology (CAICT) indicates that September saw 23.334 million mobile phone shipments in China, while the figure for the first three quarters of 2020 was 226 million units, of which 218 million were smartphones.

September saw 13.99 million 5G smartphone shipments, accounting for 60% of all mobile phone sales during the period. September marks the fourth consecutive month that 5G units have accounted for at least 60% of all Chinese mobile phone shipments.

During the first three quarters of 2020 China saw 108 million 5G smartphone shipments, accounting for 47.7% of the total.
