Alibaba Unveils Plan for Greater Digitisation of Cross-border Trade

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has unveiled an ambitious new plans to support the use of e-commerce by small businesses.

On 28 October Alibaba launched its “10 Billion Ecosystem Investment Fund” (百亿生态投资基金) plan at a ceremony held in Hangzhou.

The plan has the goal of “accelerating improvements to new digitised foreign trade channels, and helping all small and medium-sized enterprise to access resources and connect products around the globe.”

STCN.com reports that over the next three years Alibaba has the goal of helping over 10 million SME’s around the world to increase their global procurements, helping them to reach a trading volume of over USD$100 billion, while also creating new logistic network and shipping standards, and supporting 1 million tonnes in air freight and a further 1 million tonnes in TEU shipping.
