International Forecasters Upbeat on Chinese GDP Growth in 2020, 2021

Leading international forecasters anticipate comparatively robust growth for the Chinese economy in 2020 amidst the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) latest “World Economic Outlook” sees China’s economy growing 1.9% in 2020, amidst a global contraction of 4.4%, making it the only major economy to achieve positive growth this year.

The IMF forecasts that Chinese GDP growth will bounce back to 8.2% in 2021.

The World Bank forecasts that Chinese GDP will grow 1.6% this year, amidst a global contraction of 5.2%. The World Bank also forecasts GDP growth of 7.9% in 2021 for China.

KPMG’s Q4 China Economic Outlook report forecasts that Chinese GDP will grow 7.8% in 2021.
