The Beijing municipal government has reiterated its long-standing stance against speculative investment in the local real estate market.

At a recent press conference a senior official from the Beijing municipal government said that “absolutely no form of speculative investment in housing will be permitted.”

“If any signs of volume or price increases appear locally, [we] will rapidly adopt targeted adjustment and control measures to maintain the stability of the market,” said the official.

“We have never wavered from upholding the position that housing is to be used for occupation and not speculation, and have always maintained firm confidence and determination in maintaining the stability of land prices, housing prices and expectations.”
