China’s Current Account Surplus for 2020 Exceeded $310 Billion

The latest official data indicates that China’s current account surplus was over two trillion yuan (approx. USD$309.66 billion) in 2020.

China’s current account surplus was 2.0437 trillion yuan in 2020, including a trade in goods surplus of 3.6611 trillion yuan and a trade in services deficit of 1.004 trillion yuan, according to data just released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE).

For the capital and financial accounts the direct investment surplus was 699.1 billion yuan, while reserve assets increased by 187.8 billion yuan.

In the fourth quarter of 2020 China’s current account surplus was 860.1 billion yuan, including a trade in goods surplus of 1.2788 trillion yuan and trade in services deficit of 187.8 billion yuan.

For the capital and financial accounts in the fourth quarter the direct investment surplus was 378.4 billion yuan, while reserve assets increased by 162.8 billion yuan.
