China will play a leading role in efforts by the G20 to develop solutions for the challenges faced by the global sustainable finance sector.

China and the United States have been appointed to the positions of co-chairs of the G20 Sustainable Finance Study Group (SFSG) under the Italian presidency of the G20.

The SFSG held its first meeting virtually on 26 March 2021, discussing the development of a multi-year G20 Roadmap for Sustainable Finance, which will present an overview of impediments to sustainable finance as well as key measures and milestones for the consideration of members of the G20.

At the G20’s 2nd Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting held on 7 April, People’s Bank of China (PBOC) governor Yi Gang said that it welcomed the elevation of the Sustainable Finance Research Team to the status of a Study Group, and that it would work with G20 members to drive sustainable finance efforts.
