Ongoing trials of China’s Digital Renminbi have brought the central bank digital currency to one of the country’s most prestigious tertiary institutions.
Renmin University in the Chinese capital of Beijing held a ceremony for the launch of on-campus Digital Renminbi trials on the morning of 4 April.
The first location on the Renminbi University campus to support use of the Digital Renminbi for payments purposes is its official gift and souvenir store, with plans to further expand the trials to include supermarkets and restaurants.
Renmin University said that the ability to support payments using the Digital Renminbi is a major part of efforts to drive the creation of a “smart college campus.”
