The digital renminbi has helped e-commerce giant JD.com to facilitate nearly a quarter of a million transactions during the Double 11 Singles’ Day shopping festival held on 11 November in China.

JD.com’s tech subsidiary JDD said that during the period from 31 October to 11 November nearly 380,000 digital renminbi wallets connected with the JD.com app to make over 240,000 purchase orders.

Since 11 December last year, when JD.com integrated with digital renminbi trials, nearly 1.5 million digital renminbi wallets have connected with the JD.com app, with nearly 700,000 users using the digital renminbi for over 1.8 million purchases worth nearly 150 million yuan.

During the 2021 Double Eleven period JDD also teamed up with China Construction Bank and 11 digital renminbi trial sites situated in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Dalian, Xi’an and Xiong’an New District to stage digital renminbi “red packet” giveaways.
