The Shanghai municipal government has called for local companies to explore the implications of the development of digital virtual worlds for the real world economy.

At its Economic Work Meeting held on 21 December the Shanghai municipal government called for “guiding enterprises to step up research into key platforms for the interaction between virtual worlds and real society.”

The Meeting said that the Shanghai municipal government would “make arrangements to intervene when appropriate,” and “accelerate the development of new end products that directly face individual consumers and are ubiquitously known.”

The Shanghai government also called for “strengthening development arrangements in areas including smart service robots, smart wearable devices and smart furniture.”
