Ping An Group and Ant Group Top List of World’s Leading Fintech Patent Applicants

Chinese companies dominate a new list of the world’s leading companies terms of fintech patent application quality.

The “2021 Global Fintech Enterprise Patent Quality Top 10 List” (2021年全球金融科技企业专利质量TOP10) recently released by 01Caijing (零壹智库) found that the eight out of ten of the world’s top fintech innovators in terms of patent quality are now Chinese companies.

01Caijing assessed the patent applications of global fintech enterprises across the four areas of patent quality, influence, R&D capability and international competitive potential.

The list ranked Ping An Group and Ant Group in first and second place respectively, with scores of 73.8 and 68.6.

Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba came in third, followed by MasterCard and US bank holding company Capital in fourth and fifth place, all with scores of between 20 to 35.

Chinese tech giant Tencent came in sixth place with a score of 23.6, followed by Chinese power giant State Grid in seventh place with a score of 16.9.

Chinese big state-owned banks rounded out the top ten, with Bank of China garnering a score of 13.4, followed by China Construction Bank (10.6) and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (10.3).
