China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) has announced that it will undertake more campaigns to spur consumption in 2022, in a bid to stabilise consumption of key products.

Commerce minister Wang Wentao (王文涛) said that the ministry would continue to organize and undertake a series of campaigns to spur consumption, based upon the experiences of similar activities held in 2022 to stymie the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wang made the remarks on 1 March at a state press conference.

The commerce minister said that 1 March would also mark the launch of the “2022 National Month for Spurring Consumption” (2022年全国消费促进月), and that in future it would hold similar campaigns to drive consumption of goods such as automobiles and furniture, as well as consumption campaigns to capitalise upon enthusiasm for the Beijing Winter Olympics.
