Wages at Large-scale Chinese Urban Enterprises Rise over 10%

China’s urban workers have seen a sizeable increase in their wage levels despite the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The average income of employees at Chinese urban enterprises above designated size stands at 88,115 yuan, for a nominal year-on-year (YoY) rise of 10.3%, according to figures released by China’s National Bureau of Statistics on 20 May.

The average income of employees with urban non-private entities was 106,837 yuan, for YoY growth of 8.6% in inflation adjusted terms, while the average income of employees with urban private entities was 62,884 yuan, for real YoY growth of 7.8%.

Software and IT services provided the highest average incomes at 114,618 yuan, followed by the finance sector (95,416 yuan), and scientific research and tech services (77,708 yuan).
