One of China’s big three policy banks has stepped up lending for environmental protection and economic development along the Yellow River.

In the first half of 2022 the China Development Bank (CDB) issued a total of 86.3 billion yuan in loans for environmental protection and high-quality economic development along the Yellow River of central and northern China.

CDB said that the loans focused in particular upon “key environmental protection in areas including comprehensive management and water security” as well as provided support to the development of modern industry and improvements to local living standards.

Key provinces for deployment of the loans include Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi and Shanxi.

CDB said that the next step would be for it to “continue to use developmental finance and market-based methods to resolve the financing difficulties for environmental protection in the Yellow River area, and continually expand the intensity of credit extension.”
