MIIT imputes the rising popularity of Chinese vehicles at home and abroad to domestic breakthroughs in key technologies such as mass-produced batteries and high-nickel cobalt-free batteries, as well as improvements to product quality and service.

The automobile sector accounts for 6 of the 45 advanced manufacturing clusters identified by MIIT, and 13 of 99 smart manufacturing demonstration factories.
