The Shaanxi province capital of Xi’an has emerged as one of the leading centres for trial applications of the Digital Renminbi.
Xi’an has officially launched over 70,000 “application scenarios” for the Digital Renminbi, in areas including tourism, daily services, smart campuses, commercial chains, demonstration pedestrian zones and financial inclusion, according to a report from state-owned media.
Xi’an is also home to over 1.1 million personal Digital Renminbi accounts, and nearly 200,000 “public” wallets, according to information made available on 17 June at the 2021 Western Region Digital Economy Expo (2021西部数字经济博览会) held in the city.
