“Enterprises above designated size” (规模以上企业) is a statistical term used in the People’s Republic of China to refer to industrial enterprises with annual main business revenue of 20 million yuan or more.

The term was first used in China in 1996, to refer to any state-owned industrial enterprise, as well as non-state-owned industrial enterprises with annual main business revenue of 5 million yuan or more.

In 2006 China’s National Bureau of Statistics re-defined the term to refer to any industrial enterprises with annual main business revenue of 5 million yuan or more, excluding state-owned enterprises whose main business revenue fell beneath this threshold starting from 2007.

Starting from January 2011 the threshold for categorisation as an enterprise above designated size in China was increased, with the requirement for annual main business revenue rising to 20 million yuan from 5 million yuan previously.

As of the start of the 2010’s China was host to approximately 300,000 industrial enterprises above designated size.
