Guo Shuqing (郭树清)

    Guo Shuqing (郭树清) (1956 – ) is the current chairman of the China Banking and Regulatory Commission and the party secretary of the People’s Bank of China.

    Born to a Han Chinese family in Inner Mongolia’s Chahar Right Back Banner in August 1956, Guo’s official biography states that he first entered the workforce in August 1974 during the waning days of Cultural Revolution, and was member of a collective work team in the Siziwang Banner.

    Guo graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Beijing’s prestigious Nankai University in February 1982, and in February 1985 earned his master’s degree in Marxist-Leninist Socialism from the Chinese Academy of Social Science.

    In July 1988 Guo earned his PhD in Marxist-Leninist Socialism from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

    Guo joined the Chinese Communist Party in April 1984, and has since served as a assistant researcher with Marxist-Leninist Department of the China Academy of Social Sciences.

    In February 2017 Guo was appointed chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission and chairman of its party committee.
