    Neil Shen (Shen Nanpeng) (沈南鹏) (1967 – ) is a founder and partner in venture capital firm Sequoia Capital China, as well as the founder of online travel agency Ctrip (携程旅行网) and accommodation provider Home Inn (如家酒店).

    Shen was born in the Zhejiang province city of Haining, and graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1989.

    He subsequently studied abroad in the United States at Columbia University and Yale University, obtaining a master’s degree from the latter.

    In 1992 Shen joined Citibank, before returning to China to 1994 to work at Lehman Brothers, and subsequently joining Deutsche Bank in 1996 as director and head of China capital markets.

    In 1999 Shen founded online travel agency Ctrip and in 2002 he launched Home Inn, which listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market in 1999 and 2006 respectively.

    In 2005 Shen established Sequoia Capital China (红杉资本中国基金) with the support of Sequoia Capital’s Michael Moritz and Douglas Leone.

    Under Shen’s leadership Sequoia Capital China has made investments in over 300 consumer and tech enterprises, including JD.com, Dianping.com, Meituan.com, Vip.com and 360.com.

    In January 2018 Shen was elected to the 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
