China and WeChat Pay Lead the World in Mobile Payments

China has emerged as the world’s leader in terms of mobile payments according to a new report from merchant account and card payment fee comparison service Merchant Machine.

According to the report China is the world leader in terms of mobile payments usage, with 47% of Chinese phone users having previously made payments via mobile wallets.

Norway took second place at 42%, followed by the United Kingdom at 24%.

WeChat Pay is the world’s largest mobile payments platform on the planet with a total of 600 million users in 2017, or more than the combined user base of Apple, Android and Samsung.

Alipay came in second with an estimated 400 million users in 2017, followed by Paypal with 210 million users, Apple Pay with 87 million global users, and Samsung Pay with 34 million users.
