Chinese Economy on Track to Grow 8.9% in 2021, Per Capita GDP Could Double by 2035: CITIC Securities Chief Economist

Zhu Jianfang (诸建芳), chief economist at CITIC Securities, is optimistic about China’s growth prospects for 2021 following the success of efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 domestically.

Zhu said that China’s economy will return to regular operation in 2021, and is likely to be one of the world’s fastest growing economies, with a growth forecast of 8.9%.

Zhu made the remarks at the 2021 Capital Markets Annual Conference (2021资本市场年会) held in Shanghai from 10 – 12 November.

The CITIC economist is also confident that China will achieve the target set by Xi Jinping of doubling per capita GDP by 2035.
