The State Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) hopes to expedite the expansion of Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOE’s) into cooperative projects in other countries in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The next step will be to drive central state-owned enterprises to continually deepen firm cooperation with various other countries in the areas of infrastructure development, industry, trade, technological innovation and public health,” said Peng Huagang (彭华岗), SASAC party secretary, at press conference held on 19 January.

Peng said that the majority of overseas infrastructure projects undertaken by Chinese SOE’s were proceeding as normal despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, including all of the key Belt and Road projects.

81 of China’s central state-owned enterprises have launched in excess of 3,400 projects as part of the Belt and Road initiative, of which 600 have been successfully completed.
