The peak body for the Chinese banking sector plans to launch a government-approved certification program for fintech professionals.

The China Banking Association (CBA) has teamed up with tertiary institutions including the University of Shenzhen and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to launch six “fintech technician” or “fintech engineer” certification and training programs, with over 9,000 students participating.

CBA is currently in the process of applying with China’s Ministry of Human Resource and Social Security (MHRSS) for registration of “fintech technician” and “fintech engineer” as official certified professions, according to a report from National Business Daily.

The certification and training courses launched by CBA reportedly focus on areas including risk management, artificial intelligence, the blockchain, cloud computing, big data and 5G technology.
