Total Assets of China’s Financial Sector up 8.7% YoY at End of First Quarter, Securities Assets up 18.8%

The total assets of all segments of the Chinese financial sector have seen robust growth in the year ending in March.

As of the end of the first quarter total assets of the Chinese financial sector stood at 396.39 trillion yuan, for a year-on-year (YoY) rise of 8.7%.

This included total banking sector assets of 357.9 trillion yuan, for a YoY rise of 8.6%; total assets for securities sector institutions of 12.81 trillion yuan, for a YoY rise of 18.8%, and total assets for insurance sector institutions of 25.67 trillion yuan, for a YoY rise of 5.8%.

Total financial sector liabilities stood at 360.27 trillion yuan as of the end of the first quarter. Banking sector liabilities were 327.66 trillion yuan, for a YoY rise of 8.5%; securities sector liabilities were 9.77 trillion yuan, for a YoY rise of 20.9%, while insurance sector liabilities were 22.85 trillion yuan, for a YoY rise of 6.1%.
