Alibaba Launches Blockchain Software and Services Firm in Guangdong Province

E-commerce giant Alibaba has just opened a new tech subsidiary in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong.

Alibaba (Guangdong) Keji Co., Ltd. (阿里巴巴(广东)科技有限公司) was recently established in Guangdong province with registered capital of 10 million yuan, according to data from Tianyancha.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alibaba (China), and its legal representative is Tao Xuefei (陶雪飞).

The official business scope of Alibaba (Guangdong) Keji encompasses blockchain technology-related software and services, as well as artificial intelligence general application systems, research and development of specialist electronic materials, tech intermediation services and software outsourcing services.

In recent years Alibaba has emerged as one of China’s top blockchain development companies, with the opening of a specialist blockchain laboratory as part of its Alibaba DAMO Academy in September 2018.

The “2020 Blockchain Global Patent Authorisation Report” (020年区块链领域全球授权专利报告) indicates that Alibaba is the world leader in terms of authorised blockchain patents, holding 212 in total. Out of these patents 126 have obtained authorisation in countries or regions outside of China, accounting for over 59% of Alibaba’s total.
